The Ask-matic Couple

“I have asthma,” the husband says. “I need to ask-ma wife.” This is such a cliché. You’ve heard this line many times before. But it is actually what is happening in real life – at least, it’s what’s happening in mine.

My husband does not make any unilateral decision affecting our family without first consulting me. We go through a lengthy discussion of pros and cons, evaluate options before arriving at a joint decision.

That Is Why They Call It Mercy

There was once a young French soldier who was arrested for deserting Napoleon’s army at the height of war. The punishment for such crime was by execution. At a public trial that was conducted, the young soldier’s mother pleaded for his son’s life. Napoleon responded, “Your son is a coward, not worthy of mercy.” To which the mother replied, “I know he is not worthy, that is why they call it mercy!”

Know You’re Short

I love the story of Zaccheus in the Bible. You see he was a short fellow who knew he was short. That was why he climbed a sycamore tree to see Jesus. But not only did he know he was physically short, but he knew he was spiritually small as well.

Our problem today is that many short people think they’re tall. So they don’t climb trees. They just stand with the crowd, thinking that perhaps Jesus will see them since they’ll stand out anyway.

Action Potential

Action potential in the human body is due to a stimulus which if strong enough, would produce the desired effect in a membrane. If the stimulus is weak, no response is produced. Action potential is also referred to as an “all-or-none” response.

I sometimes waver between an all-or none response. When it is a friend in need, I have an all response. I do the best I could for him/her. But when it comes to a stranger in need, I have a none-response. It’s as if I didn’t see a need.

New Year Chinese Belief

The Chinese practices putting twelve different kinds of fruits on the dinner table at the stroke of New Year. The twelve fruits should be round in shape, if possible, sweet. The Chinese believes the fruit represents the twelve months of the year and putting them on the dinner table on meeting the New Year means your table will be abundant with foods whole year round. How to Stretch Your Peso

Stretching the peso nowadays is very important because of the global crisis. One way is by making a list of the items to be bought so that you will not buy unnecessary things. We may buy those foods in season for they are cheaper than out-of-season foods. You may compare the prices in market stalls or grocery stores for one might charge less. Meat is an expensive source of protein but we can use tokwa, beans, or eggs as alternatives for they are much cheaper. Lastly, you may grow some vegetables if you have time and space at your backyard.

My Homegrown Snack

One of the favorite homegrown snack foods in my country is the banana Q. The banana that is used in making banana Q is not the usual banana fruit you see at the groceries for it is not a fruit. It is one banana cooked fried with oil and brown sugar. A lot of people make a business out of banana Q since it is saleable and is a snack item in the Philippines. One not only requires a small place with a manual stove, banana q sticks, cooking oil, bananas, brown sugar and frying pan and one can start a banana q Kiosk business.
